Fremantle WA Maritime Museum: Top Land-Based Fishing Spot in Western Australia
One of the best land-based fishing spots in Western Australia is the back of Fremantle WA Maritime Museum (right hand side of the museum from the main carpark), where the Swan River meets the ocean. This location offers a variety of species, including crabs, herring, snapper, tailor, flathead, pike, and even moray eels. The ideal time to fish is during the summer season when fish activity increases due to warmer waters. While weekends can get busy, visiting on weekdays ensures a quieter experience. With water depths reaching 10 meters, it’s perfect for casting lures or dropping lines, but remember to bring a fishing gaff for larger catches. The area is safe, features public toilets, good lighting, and flat walking paths, making night fishing—particularly from 8 PM onward—a great option. Be mindful of no-fish zones, which are clearly marked on the pathways, ensuring a smooth fishing experience.
